Winter Reminders

Winter Reminders - Important

As we approach this winter season, it is a good time to remember that snow and its removal call for a bit of diligence and courtesy. In order of importance to our development, please be aware of and heed these requirements.

Snow Removal

STREET PARKING: Keeping our streets clear is most important, so please remember that per our Association rules, on street parking is prohibited when snowfall exceeds two inches

SNOW REMOVAL FROM VILLAGE/CITY STREET: The Village/City is responsible for snow removal from public streets. For any issues regarding the removal of snow from public streets, please contact your local public works/city/village to report snow removal issues on village/city streets.

PARK YOUR CAR IN THE GARAGE: In order for snow plows to clear snow from the from the driveway, all cars MUST be parked in your garage!

PLOWING/SNOW REMOVAL: The association ONLY clears snow after accumulation of 2" has been reached. The Association's snow removal company will only clear townhouse driveways. All cars MUST be parked in the garage during snow accumulation under 2 inches. Failure to adhere to this will result in the snow not being removed from the townhome/condo owner’s driveway.

STEPS & SIDEWALKS: During snow storms, steps and sidewalks may not be cleared until the next day - The priority is driveways first. Use your garage entrance until the snow is cleared.

SALT – USE CALCIUM CHLORIDE - NOT ROCK SALT: it is important that you use Calcium Chloride instead of rock salt on concrete sidewalks/driveways and asphalt. Rock Salt will cause concrete to deteriorate rapidly. Do Not use Rock Salt on concrete. Calcium Chloride is Calcium chloride is effective down to a temperature of -25 degrees.

WALKWAYS AND PATHS: Only select curbs and pathways will be cleared by the Association. All walkways are for use at your own risk and may not be treated or cleared.

WINTER STORM WARNINGS: A winter storm warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected. Heavy, wet snow and gusty winds could lead to power outages and difficult driving conditions. Drivers are urged to only travel in the event of an emergency. Snow removal will be delayed. DO NOT expect snow to be removed during blizzards or winter storms similar to when storms are not preset.

KEEP YOUR GARAGE DOOR SHUT AFTER USE: Don’t leave garage doors open during extreme freezing weather as it could cause pipes to freeze, which could end up costing you greatly if there is a water break.

MAKE SURE ALL WINDOWS ARE CLOSED TIGHTLY AND CORRECTLY: Keep all the heat inside your home by making sure all your windows are closed. Check for other gaps, specifically under your entry doors, that could let in cold air around your home and seal those with a towel or door sweep.

KEEP YOUR HEAT ON WHEN YOU LEAVE: Keep your heat on when you leave for a weekend or for vacation. If your heat is turned off, it could cause a pipe to freeze and potentially burst. If you do leave and want to drop the temperature, set it between 60-68 degrees, it will still save you money and will prevent frozen pipes.
SHOVEL YOUR BALCONY OR DECK: If applicable, don’t forget to shovel your balcony or deck regularly. This will help to prevent snow and ice build-up.

CHANGE YOUR FURNACE FILTER: Furnace should be checked and filters should be changed on a monthly or bi-monthly basis especially if you live in a newer home. If you’re furnace filter gets dirty, it will not heat your unit properly.

TRASH SERVICES: Trash services may be interrupted as a result of a storm. For up to the minute information regarding delays or service cancellations, please contact your waste management services company for details. Do not contact the association.

EMERGENCIES (LIFE/FIRE): Call 911 in the event of any life-threatening emergency
